It's been three long years since Thelma Plum released her break out long player, Better In Blak, but she is back with a vengeance with new single, Backseat Of My Mind.
As the song opens with bare piano and voice you'd be convinced this will be a soulful ballad but don't be fooled. This is a fist pumping pop tune that is well suited to a long drive with the windows down, driving fast with a few friends on board. The lyrics are reflective and introspective, "As I look in the rear-view mirror, I leave it behind in the backseat of my mind." The production is a step forward as well, with well executed, driving percussion and accents provided by guitar and keys.
"I've spent a lot of time in vans and I really wanted to write a nostalgic 'driving song', which I hope I've nailed." Oh yes you have. Our only request is that next time you're on tour that you bring the gorgeous boy Tex with you so we can all get a pat and a cuddle.
