DOPE LEMON have announced their highly-anticipated fourth album Kimosabè, with a dazzlingly serene single, ‘Miami Baby’.
A song perfect for holding onto past summer days, emanating the best of lush and luxurious times. The song’s atmosphere is emphasised by the bluesy, sun-soaked guitar solo and nonchalant delivery of vocals.
Angus Stone’s effortless swagger is well and truly exhibited in this song, but the lyrics suggest deeper undertones. The first verse begins describing the bliss of an escape from reality with a lover. The chorus, however, contrasts this bliss, stating “They only believe me when I’m telling them lies.” The music video aids in bringing forth speculations about fame and greed, but still keeping the song in a laid-back, goofy DOPE LEMON style.
The talk of fame and greed coming from DOPE LEMON is not unqualified. Having received massive amounts of recognition for their previous album, Rose Pink Cadillac including #1 on the ARIA vinyl and album charts, and being named Triple J’s feature album in 2022.
