The Double Happiness Launches Their Smoking Gun

‘Smoking Gun’ is the lead single from the upcoming third instalment, Roadhouse due for release this September.

The Double Happiness always intended to release a thematic Surf-Guitar triptych: City, Surf and Western.

'Smoking Gun' pulls the trigger on the band’s love of Spaghetti-Surf-Western twanging guitars and mixes the heady lyrical themes of near death experiences and romantic close calls into this saloon-ready wild west ballad.

For Fans Of: David Lynch, La Luz, Link Wray, The Tremelo Beer Gut, the soundtracks to Tarantino films

The track was recorded and engineered by lead guitarist and vocalist Pete Fergusson and features the call-and-response interplay of vocals with his real-life ‘pardner’, Kristin; in true Nancy and Lee style.

‘Smoking Gun’ most definitely lives up to its name, giving listeners a clue of things to come, as the “Magnificent Four” indulge in their love for Tarantino soundtracks and 1960s TV westerns.

“This song has taken us on quite a ride from its inception,” says Kristin. “What is now the signature guitar riff originally had lyrics, the rhythm guitar was swapped out for a nylon stringed classical and a first for us was the inclusion of brass with the foreboding sounds of trumpet and trombone.”

A rollicking dust-up of a music video for the single will be released sometime in late July/early September.

Having laid low for most of the year to record their sophomore album Roadhouse, the launch show for ‘Smoking Gun’ will be a jubilant occasion shared with local duo The Wicked Messenger (beautiful folk music about death and love) and the whiskey-wrecked reflections of unrequited love and busted hearts, as told by the legendary Shifting Sands.
